PURPOSE:To remove coating material by projecting laser light on the coating on a conductor to make a hole there, and projecting laser light on the thus exposed conductor so that the coating material will be turned up in the direction away from the laser light irradiation point due to thermal conduction from the conductor. CONSTITUTION:A area desired to be removed is defined on the coating material 33a, 33b on a flat cable 30, and a laser light irradiation point P is set on the coating material 33a on one side. Laser light 50 is projected on the laser light irradiation point P, and the coating material is thereby instantaneously evaporated to make a hole 35. Then laser light 50 is projected on the resultant exposed conductor 32 to heat it. As a x-esult the thinned portion of the coating material 33a covering the edges is melted almost at the same time as the adhesive between the conductor 32 and the coating material 33a is melted. Thus the coating material 3a is turned up with the irradiation point P at the center, and the conductor 32 is exposed. Simuultaneously, the coating material 33b on the back side is also turned up due to heat from the the condtuctor 32. Then the base 36 of the turned-up portion is cut to expose the conductor 32. |
