PURPOSE:To provide a backlight whose lamp-side connector is held so stably that the work of connecting and disconnecting a lighting-circuit-side connector is facilitated and to provide a liquid-crystal display device using the backlight. CONSTITUTION:A low pressure electric discharge lamp 20 is enclosed in a casing 10 that is open on its upper side, and a connector holder 30 is attached to one end of the casing 10, and a lamp-side connector 40 electrically connected to the low pressure electric discharge lamp is attached to the connector holder 30, and a lighting-circuit-side connector connected to a lighting circuit is removably connected to the lamp-side connector 40. Therefore, the lamp-side connector is stably supported against the casing via the connector holder and does not obstruct installation, and the work of attaching and removing the lighting-circuit- side connector is facilitated when a backlight is replaced. |
