PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal orienting agent capable of giving excellent property as a liquid crystal oriented film by incorporating two kinds of resins having difference equal to or higher than a specific value in the surface tension of a resin coating film formed by casting a resin solution on a solid substrate and evacuating or heating. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal orienting agent contains two kinds of the resins having difference >=2dyne/cm of the surface tension of the resin coating film formed by casting the resin solution, which is prepared by dissolving in the solvent system to be a homogeneous solution in <10% concn. of the resin portion, on the solid substrate and evacuating or heating to be <=10% of solvent concn. Both two resins are preferably selected from a polyamide acid, a polyamide and a polyimide. As a concrete example, the liquid crystal orienting agent is obtained by dissolving a polyamide consisting essentially of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and a polyamide acid consisting essentially of an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid in weight ratio of 70:30 in NMP and preparing so as to be 6% in total resin concn. |
