<p>Nitrotyrosine residues in proteins are shown by histological staining studies to be a marker for oxidative damage to tissues in animals and in humans. Nitrotyrosine at sites of inflammation or in tumors can be detected by monoclonal antibodies specific to nitrotyrosine. Such antinitrotyrosine antibodies can be used in standard immunological methods for qualitative or quantitative assays of nitrotyrosine to diagnose various pathological conditions. The antibodies can be conjugated to various diagnostic or therapeutic agents, and the conjugates used to direct the diagnostic or therapeutic agents to sites of oxidative damage in living animals or humans.</p> |
