A method for driving a two-shaft shearing type shredder comprising a pair of rotary shafts with cutters rotatably supported horizontally in a housing for rotating the pair of rotary shafts and a scraper mounted on an inner surface of the housing so that the scraper faces and is spaced from the rotary shafts and the cutters, wherein an operation of rotating the rotary shafts in the forward direction for a first predetermined length of time and then rotating the rotary shafts in the reverse direction for a second predetermined length of time is continually repeated, the first predetermined length of time being greater than the second predetermined length of time.
