A bag (10) for popping popcorn in a microwave oven has substantially rectangular front and back face panels (11, 12) and gusseted side panels (13, 14) joining the opposite side edges thereof. Top and bottom ends (15, 16) of the bag (10) are normally closed and sealed, but the top end may be opened for removal of popcorn. The gusseted side panels (13, 14) unfold during cooking to enlarge the interior volume of the bag (10), forming triangularly shaped corner flaps (30, 31 and 32, 33) at the junctures of the side panels (13, 14) and the front and back panels (11, 12), respectively. Spots of adhesive (24, 25) are placed between confronting surfaces between the triangularly shaped panels of the corner flaps to hold them in contiguous relationship to one another and prevent the formation of pockets to enhance popcorn yield. Preferably, the adhesive spots (24, 25) are placed between the confronting surfaces only at the back panel (12) and only at the closed bottom end (16).
