A file of the invention comprises a pair of front and back opening and closing covers (4, 5), a backbone (6) provided between base ends of the both opening and closing covers (4, 5), and a binding tool (3) fixed to an inner surface of the backbone (6). The file further comprises engaging projections (8) provided on an inner surface of at least one of the opening and closing covers (4, 5) for engaging with the binding tool (3) in a closed position of the file. With the arrangement of the file, the backbone (6) and hinge portions (7) are hard to deform even when one of long sides of rectangular sheets are bound by the binding tool (3) and the file is stored with the backbone (6) kept horizontal in an uppermost position.
