In churches and chapels, candles are burnt on a stand with a housing (1) with a filter (5) in /- 1 air permeable region (4) of the roof. The housing contains mountings for candles and is rectangular in plan, with walls (3) through which air cannot pass. A screen (6) may extend down from the filter by 9-11 cm to restrict the opening (2) at the front. The filter is supported by a grid or perforated sheet, positioned between it and the candles.
