<p>A system for determining a breach in a glove (22, 24) or other article of clothing includes an article of clothing worn by a user (20). The article has a multilayer design with a first elastomer layer (58), and an electrically conductive deformable layer (56) overlying the first elastomer layer (58). There is a circuit (35), preferably placed into a wristwatch-like bracelet (36, 38) on the wrist of the user or into a necklace (34) worn around the neck of the user, for sensing a flow of electrical charge between the electrically conductive deformable layer (56) and either the body of the user (20) or another electrically conductive layer (54) in the article of clothing. The approach may be extended to the provision of alternating conductive and nonconductive layers in the article, and the measurement of charge flow between any two electrically conductive layers. In a preferred embodiment, the article of clothing is a glove or a gown.</p> |
