Soft magnetic thin film for magnetic head of recording device

The magnetic film (1) consists mainly of iron, with the addition of silicon and other elements in various limited proportions, according to the formula FeaMbSicTdXeYfZg. The indices a,b,c,d,e,f,g represent atomic ratios, where a+b+c+d+e+f+g = 100 and where c is between 5 and 20, d is between 2 and 20, e is between 0.5 and 15, and g is between 1 and 20. The mean crystal grain diameter within the magnetic film is not more than 50 nm and the film is heat treated to segregate the smaller crystals. The film is then used to form part of the magnetic head within a video or audio recording device which uses magnetic tape or magnetic disc as a recording medium.
