The cutting mechanism has sliding carriages (6,8) which are fixed to the knife support (2) and can travel on two tracks (7,9) which have a common centre of curvature but which have a different angle of curvature and which are fixed to the machine frame (1). The connecting rod (15) of a crank device is connected to the knife support by means of a joint. The crank drive operates the connecting rod which moves the knife support along the guide tracks. The cut is then made in the material (4) which is held by jaws (10) by the knife (3) against the cutting table (5).
