PURPOSE:To enhance the interaction between a rare earth element and a noble metal and to obtain a high activity catalyst by forming an oxide supporting layer based on a zeolite type silicate contg. Si and the rare earth element and supporting the noble metal on the supporting layer by ion exchange. CONSTITUTION:The oxide supporting layer is formed on the surface of the base material of a heat resistant carrier such as ceramics or a heat resistant steel sheet and a noble metal catalyst is supported on the supporting layer. The oxide is based on the zeolite type silicate contg. Si and the rare earth element as metallic elements. The noble metal catalyst is a Pt group element supported on the zeolite type silicate by ion exchange. The Pt group element forms ionic bond to the silicate as cations and a durable high activity catalyst for purification of exhaust gas is obtd. |
