PURPOSE:To obtain a new composition suitable for cleaning especially the surface of rolled steel plate, having low foaming, excellent cleaning properties and biodegradability, containing an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal gluconate and a specific ampholytic surfactant as active ingredients. CONSTITUTION:This composition contains (A) an alkali metal hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide, (B) (i) an alkali metal gluconate or (ii) a component composed of one or more substances selected from the component (i), sorbitol, mannitol and glucose and a water-soluble aluminum salt such as sodium aluminate and (C) and an ampholytic surfactant of the formula [R1 is a 5-9C alkyl or alkenyl; R2 is CH2CH2OH or CH2CH2OCH2COOM (M is an alkali metal, ammonium or an alkanolamine)] as active ingredients in the amounts of 0.5-7.0wt.% of the components A+B and 0.01-0.15wt.% of the component C and in the weight ratio of the component B/A of 0.01-1.2. |
