HYDROGEN SEPARATION ELEMENT, HYDROGEN SEPARATOR USING THE SAME, AND PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN SEPARATION ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To obtain a hydrogen separation element diffusing and separating only hydrogen gas by coating the inner peripheral surfaces of the through-holes of a porous substrate with a metal having hydrogen separation capacity to close the pores of the inner peripheral surface. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen separation element 1 consists of a porous substrate 2 and the hydrogen separation membrane 3 applied to the inner peripheral surface of each of the through-holes 4 of the substrate 2. The porous substrate 2 has a plurality of the through-holes and a large number of pores are provided to the interior and surface thereof and three-dimensionally continued mutually to permit gas to pass. The interiors of the pores opened to the inner peripheral surface of each through-hole 4 are filled with the hydrogen separation membrane 3 to be closed. The hydrogen separation membrane 3 is composed of a metal having hydrogen separation capacity such as palladium or a palladium-containing alloy. When raw material gas passes through the hydrogen separation membrane 3, gas separation is performed and high purity hydrogen gas is obtained.
