POLYCENTRIC HINGE FOR ORTHOPEDIC EPITHESIS

PURPOSE: To provide a polycentric hinge for epithesis dispersing the axial loading and having a wide adjustment range of elongation. CONSTITUTION: An orthopedic polycentric hinge 10 is equipped with a pair of rigid support arms 12 and 14 having an interlocking leading end, a pair of pivot pins 22 and 24 and hinge plates 18 and 20. The support arms 12 and 14 can be turned between an adjustable elongation position and bending position, with the leading ends of the support arms linked to the hinge plates 18 and 20 through the pivot pins 22 and 24. The hinge plates 18 and 20 have an adjustment hole to house an elongation regulating pin 28 and a bend regulating pin 28 in order to prevent the arms 12 and 14 from rotating beyond their maximum elongation position and their maximum bending position. The regulating pin 28 is fixed to a hinge assembly product 16 by an elastomer connecting piece 34 and can be inserted in an adjustment hole so as to adjust the moving range of the arms. A flip top cap 50 covers the regulating pin 28 to prevent the pin from being inserted into other holes than the selected hole.
