PURPOSE:To provide an antitheft device for a vehicle by preventing the use of a key by a third party, and facilitating the registration of the intrinsic code of a new key and to provide a setting method therefor. CONSTITUTION:An antitherft system for a vehicle which is constituted so that the intrinsic code is registered beforehand and judges the truth or falsehood of a key on the basis of the operation of the key 1 having the code is equipped with the memory parts 5 and 10 for registering and memorizing the intrinsic code of the key 1, menas 8 for confirming the prescribed first operation for varying the code which is registered in the memory parts 5 and 10 and is intrinsic for the key 1, and a means for continuously registering the codes which are intrinsic for a plurality of new keys. An ignition switch is prevented from being turned-ON unless the prescribed condition based on the intrinsic code of the key is satisfied, and the antitheft device for a vehicie is provided.
