PURPOSE: To provide a butt-contacting and welding equipment in which operation of a treating station of the down stream side is not disturbed, fracture of a welded region is prevented, thickness of a welded area does not become excessive and a metal sheet is not marked at the time of winding coils by butt- welding the metal sheet of two coils with laser beam. CONSTITUTION: A detecting means 4 detects a back end part 1a of the metal sheet while the metal sheet of the first coil 1 progresses, then, stops the progressing of the metal sheet between a shearing means 5 and storing means 7 and shears the rear end part 1a of the coil 1 by activating the shearing means 5. The back end part 1a of the coil 1 is abutted to a stopper 31 by a guiding and supporting means 6b and an edge to be welded is positioned on the axis line of the laser beam 11. By means of the same method, a front end part 2a of the second coil 2 is sheared and is in contact with the rear end part 1a of the coil 1 by a supporting means 6a. The rear end part 1a and the front end part 2a are held by upper shoes 41, 91 and lower shoes 21, 81 and the edge to be welded is welded with the laser beam 11. |
