The method of transferring a granular chemical from a package (28) includes aligning the dispensing valve (30) with the receiving valve (24) of an application device. When the two valves are uncoupled, both are closed automatically, with the receiving valve being closed last. Granulars are wiped from the valve seats while the valves are uncoupled.
