In a method for removing oil or leached water from contaminated soil, (a) a steel pipe (1) with a loosely secured cap (3) is pile driven into the soil; (b) a perforated plastic tube (2) is inserted into the pipe and pushed firmly against the upper side of the cap; (c) the steel pipe is pulled up and removed to leave the tube and pipe cap in the soil; and (d) the upper end of the tube is sealed with a vacuum lid and connected to a vacuum pump (6) to suck the oil or leached water through the perforations and up to a certain height in the tube. The combined pipe/tube device for carrying out the method is also claimed.
