A detergent composition comprises builder system, a nonionic polysaccharide ether and a surfactant system. The surfactant system comprises an anionic surfactant and a nonionic surfactant at a ratio of from 0.6:1 to 10:1. The compositions of the present invention provide improved soil release performance and clay soil removal performance. The polysaccharide ether is preferably a cellulose ether, starch ether, or dextran ether. The anionic surfactant may be an alkyl sulphate, unsaturated sulphate, sulphated alkyl polyglycoside, sulphonated fatty acid ester, alkyl aryl sulphonate or glycerol sulphonate. The nonionic surfactant may be a polyethylene, polypropylene, and polybutylene oxide condensate of an alkyl phenol. |
