PURPOSE:To obtain an industrially advantageous electroviscous fluid, capable of manifesting excellent electrorheological (ER) effects by dispersing a small amount of a readily producible dispersoid without using any carrier and available in a simple production process by dispersing particles of a specific aliphatic hydrocarbon in an electrical insulating liquid. CONSTITUTION:This electroviscous fluid is obtained by dispersing (B) particles of (i) an aliphatic hydrocarbon compound having plural OH groups (e.g. one or more selected from a 5-12C aliphatic polyhydric alcohol having 2-8 methylol groups, a 5-7C sugaralcohol and PVA) or (ii) an aliphatic hydrocarbon compound having plural amino groups [e.g. an aliphatic diamine of the formula H2 NCH2(CH2),CH2NH2 [(n) is 6-20]] having >=50 deg.C melting point in (A) an electrical insulating liquid, comprising a mineral oil and/or a synthetic oil having 5-300cst kinematic viscosity at 40 deg.C. |
