High speed false twisting and appts., and partic. high speed false twisting for smoothly twisting yarns at yarn speed of at least 1,000 m/min. and high speed false twisting appts. for conducting smoothly method. Pref. when thermoplastic multifilament yarns are false-twisted, false twisting is made with amny false twists satisfying following formula (1) to obtain high quality false-twisted yarns, false twisting is made at a yarn speed satisfying following formula (2) to obtain higher productivity and false twisting is also made with short thread handling length satisfying following formula (3) to obtain high twisting stability. (1): T is at least 0.24 sq.rt A, (2) V is at least 1.30 x 10power-3/sq.rt A, (3): L is not more than 90/V, T is number of false twists inserted per yarn (n times/m; n is number of turns of twist), V is yarn speed of false twisting (m/s), L is length of thread handling from roller for feeding yarn to false twisting zone to twister to which false twist is inserted (m). A is sectional area (m2) of yarn which is obtd. by dividing size of y yarn (wt. per unit length) by yarn density (wt. per unit vol.).
