The monitoring device has a holder (42) attached to the opening window (16), supporting a source element (44), with a marking (48), which is displaced by movement of the window catch (20). A cooperating detector (30) is secured to the window frame (14), providing an output signal indicating the position of the source element, for indicating the release of the catch. Pref. the source element slides linearly relative to the holder in response to the movement of the window catch against a return spring bias.
