<p>A reflection type or semi-transparent reflection type liquid crystal device wherein an input panel having a pair of input electrodes spaced with a predetermined gap is integrated with an FSTN type liquid crystal cell. The liquid crystal display device comprises first and second polarizing plates that sandwich the input panel and the liquid crystal cell, and a phase difference plate consisting of an optically anisotropic polymer film is brought into close contact with the surface of the liquid crystal cell. Since the first polarizing plate reduces the quantity of light incident into the input panel, the quantity of light reflected at the boundary between the input panel and the air layer or reflected from the liquid crystal cell surface decreases. Further, because an air layer does not exist between the liquid crystal cell and the phase difference plate, coloration by reflected light passing through only one of them can be prevented, and black-and-white display having high contrast can be accomplished.</p> |
