The drive unit has an electric drive motor and a connected worm gear. The worm gear shaft, together with an extension of the armature shaft of the drive motor, form a drive shaft (20). The two opposing ends of the drive shaft (20) are disposed, without play, between abutments of housing parts of the drive unit. At the gear end of the drive shaft (20) at least an area of the housing part (28) is made of a thermoplastic material. This has a bore (34) open to the drive shaft (20), aligned with the drive shaft. A running element (32) sits in the bore (34) and has a ball part which lies on the gear end of the drive shaft (20). The other side of the bore (34) is at least partially closed by a shoulder (38) of the housing part (28) lying on the running element (32).
