The roller drive comprises a ball race gearing (22) which acts as a sensitive adjustment gearing (21), with a tensioning shaft gearing (23) coaxially positioned behind it. The ball race gearing comprises two drive bearing races (28,29) connected directly, or indirectly by a drive shaft (26), to the drive unit. The driven race (41) is connected to the tensioning shaft gearing which consists of an elliptical cam disc (47), an elastic planetary wheel (56) with inner and outer cogging, an inner-toothed sun wheel (59), and an outer-toothed spur wheel (57).
