METHOD OF FOIL DECORATING IN INJECTION MOLDING AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

A picture-carrying foil is held on a circumferential portion of a molding cavity of a female mold by a sheet clamp with the foil projecting into the cavity. The picture-carrying foil is then thermally softened by a curved surface type heating plate, and thereafter sucked through a suction hole of the female mold so as to be set in close contact with the inner circumferential surface of the molding cavity. An amount of displacement of the thermally softened picture-carrying foil during the preforming thereof on the surface of the molding cavity of the female mold decreases to a low level. Therefore, the distortion of the picture-carrying foil and the occurrence of wrinkles in and breakage of the same foil decrease. The mold clamping is then done by combining the female mold and a male mold with each other, and an injection molding operation is carried out by injecting a molten resin into the molding cavity.
