The air emitted sound attenuator is comprised of a flow conduit (1) surrounded by a sealed wall wherein circulates a gas medium (2) at a subsonic speed, as well as a device (3) for suppressing the sound emissions in the air and which is connected to the flow conduit (1). The flow conduit (1) is configured like an air admission channel. The device (3) is arranged in the flow direction (4) of the medium (2) before a noise source (5) emitting the sounds in order to eliminate the emission of sounds in the air in the direction opposite to the flow direction (4). The device (3) comprises at least one flow modification means which causes at least at one place a speed increase of the gas medium (2) almost up to the sound speed.
