Motion analysis of moving images

Motion vectors are derived by means of a correlation surface. Once motion vectors have been identified for all of blocks making up the image, a small group of motion vectors is picked for each block in a vector reduction step prior to further processing. The search for motion vectors for inclusion in this group uses a predetermined selection test and takes place in a primary set of blocks abutting the target block in question and then in a secondary set of blocks surrounding the target block but spaced from the primary set blocks.
