<p>A mechanism for clamping a cutting tool holder (11) in a socket (25) formed in an end face of a clamping unit (10) in a cutting machine. An axially movable drawbar (29) has a multiple number of flat surfaces (42) obliquely angled to the drawbar (29) axis for exerting cam forces on individual wedge elements (43) that are slidably guided for outward movement into wedge lock engagements with an inturned flange (37) on the tool holder. The wedge elements (43) exert axial forces on the tool holder internal flange (37) for simultaneously achieving a relatively tight fit of the tool holder (11) in the associated socket and a seating of the tool holder (11) against an end face of the clamping unit (10).
