The piston rod (8) has a flat section (17) extending in the axial direction with a longitudinal groove in which a magnetic strip (22) can be sensed by a stationary detector (18). The strip is divided lengthwise into a number of zones magnetised alternately in opposite directions. The strip is covered by a layer (33) of magnetically permeable material which guarantees an optimal seal between the piston rod and the cylinder end (6) as well as protecting the magnetic strip from damage. |
