Tip seal and anti-contamination arrangement for air-cooled turbine blades

A cavity 36 judiciously dimensioned and located adjacent a blade tip's surface discharge port 30 of an internal cooling passage of the blade airfoil extends from the pressure surface (18) (Figs. 1 and 2) to the back wall of the discharge port and guards against the contamination and plugging of the discharge port. A plurality of cavities may be associated with a plurality of ports (Fig. 2) and the cavities may vary in depth (Fig. 4).
