Temporary package for bare die test and-burn-in

The temporary package comprises a base of generally rectangular configuration with a top and bottom surface and four sides. The base has recesses in at least two of the sides and device locates the die on the top surface. A number of contact strips having an elongate shape are adapted to fit in the recesses. A device temporarily secures the strips in the recesses. Each contact strip comprises a number of contacts formed at one end to make electrical contact with the die and have the second end positioned transversely opposite the one end with relationship to the contact strip to afford electrical contact along a side of the base. A force applying mechanism is supported from the base for biasing the die toward base to afford electrical connection between the die, the contacts and the periphery of the base. The force applying mechanism comprises a pressure plate to contact the die, and bias device for forcing the pressure plate toward the base. A cover is attached to the base and supports the bias device for restricting movement of the cover from the base such that the bias device urges the pressure plate and the die into electrical engagement with the contacts on the contact strip. A protective cover is mounted on the base and movable in relationship to the base to protect the force applying mechanism from side and vertical pressure received by the package.
