<p>This metal gasket 20 is adapted to prevent the occurrence of stress concentration in bead plates 21, 22 and intermediate plates 27, 28 which is ascribed to an excessive large load of thermal stress due to a height difference existing between the opposed surfaces of hot plugs, which form swirl chambers 7, and a cylinder head 1 and a cylinder block 2, and thermal expansion amounts of the hot plugs 8, whereby -the occurrence of cracks in the metal gasket 20 is prevented. The portions of an intermediate plate which correspond to boundary regions between bottom surfaces 24 of the hot plugs 8 having the swirl chambers 7 therein and a lower surface 3 of the cylinder head 1 are provided with stress offsetting means comprising recesses 18 or stress offsetting means comprising profiles 39 formed by outwardly enlarging the combustion chamber bores 23 in at least the bead plate 21. <MATH></p> |
