摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of a fuel cell and drop of the cell performance and avoid hazard of burning outside the cell by evaluating the pressure acting on an electrolyte layer in the cell reaction area from the static difference between the fuel gas and oxidator gas. CONSTITUTION:A fuel gas 5 and an oxidator gas 6 are supplied to each unitary cell 4 of a fuel cell 21 accommodated in a vessel 20, and the rates of flow of these gases are measured by flowmeters 23, 23. The pressures of the two gases 5, 6 are measured by pressure gauges 24, 25, and the rate of flow and pressure of each gas are converted into digital signals and taken into a computer 28. The computer 28 calculates the flow speeds and dynamic pressures of the gases 5, 6 and also calculates the flow speeds and dynamic pressures of the gases inside the fuel cell 21 so that their static pressures are determined. The difference in the static pressure between the two gases 5, 6 in the cell reaction area, and the result is displayed on a monitor. Thereby the differential pressure of the gases 5, 6 is evaluated, and if necessary, the degrees of opening of valves 26, 27 are controlled so that the pressure acting on the electrolyte matrix is kept low, which allows maintaining the electrolyte stably.
