ROUTE GUIDING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To reduce the error of a remaining running distance to be guided by summing the lengths of a plurality of links in a recommendable route to a destination from the present location. CONSTITUTION:A locator 5 calculates the present location of its own vehicle by finding the azimuth changing amount of the vehicle based on the turning angle of the vehicle detected by means of a vibrating gyro sensor 6 and moved distance of the vehicle from the distance detected by means of a distance sensor 2. The locator 5 also calculates the running track data of the vehicle based on the present location data of the vehicle and detects the location of the vehicle on a road by comparing the track data with road patterns stored on a disk D (map matching method). A memory drive 8 reads out link data for calculating route from the disk D in accordance with a control signal from the controller 7 and outputs the link data to the controller 7. The controller 7 calculates the optimum route (recommendable route) to a destination from the present location. Since a remaining running distance calculating means sums the length of each link constituting the recommendable route, the summed result of the means becomes nearly equal to the true remaining running distance.
