PURPOSE: To provide a surgical fastener dispensing with any additional member to be locked or held at a tissue, by connecting a helical member at the lower part of a base member and forming a piercing means at the edge part of the helical member. CONSTITUTION: This rivet 10 as a surgical fastener has a base member 20 comprising a top face 30 a bottom face 40 and a side face 25 connecting the top face 30 and the bottom face 40. To facilitate riveting, the top face 30 of the base member 20 is provided with a dent or the like adaptable to various tools. A helical member is extended from the bottom face 40 of the base member 30 downward. This helical member is preferably created to form a spiral having a given size of coil, making its distal end part 54 a piercing front end 58. This piercing front end 58 is formed to have a piercing front end shape acute enough to effectively pierce a tissue.
