PURPOSE:To improve the flame retardancy by incorporating a specific mixed metal hydroxide and at least either of a water glass and a frit into an olefin resin in a specified proportion. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. at least one olefin resin selected from among linear low-density PE, an ethylene/ethyl acrylate copolymer, an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, and PP is compounded with 50-200 pts.wt. mixed metal hydroxide represented by the formula [wherein M1 and M2 each is Mn<2+>, Fe<2+>, Co<2+>, Ni<2+>, Cu<2+>, or Zn<2+> and 0.05<(X+Y)<0.7], e.g. Mg17(X+Y)NiXCoY(OH)2 (wherein X=0.01 and Y=0.49), as a flame retardant and 0.5-20 pts.wt. water glass or frit represented by the formula NaXOn.SiO2 (wherein n>1) as a flame retardant aid. If necessary, an antioxidant is added. Thus, the composition is obtained which has flame retardancy comparable to that of PVC and does not produce a hydrogen halide. |
