PURPOSE:To provide a steering lock device that is not broken even if steering is forcibly continued, and also whose rotating tongue is not reduced. CONSTITUTION:Elastic cylinder 30, 32 of a nearly square cross-sectional shape is integrally formed with a key lock collar 12, and four balls 40 whose diameter is larger than the narrowest part 38 of the clearance 36 are equiangularly arranged in the clearances 36 that is gradually changed in the circumferential direction between the elastic cylinder and the outer circumferential surface of a steering shaft 20. Even if the turning operation of the steering wheel is carried out in the lock condition, if the operational torque thereof is less than the legal rotating torque, the ball 40 stops in a position before the narrowest part 38 to prevent the rotation of the shaft 10. If a large torque is forcibly given, the ball 40 rolls beyond the narrowest part 38 and allows the rotation of the shaft 10, so that the breakage of the device can be prevented. Even if the shaft 10 is forcibly continued to rotate, the balls 40 and the elastic cylinder 30, 32 are not subjected to wear, and the rotating torque is not reduced. |
