PURPOSE:To provide a communication system capable of transmitting information rich in expressions and added with colors. CONSTITUTION:On the transmission side, message data are generated by combining a routine sentence code decided based on a routine sentence table stored in a ROM 33 together with a routine sentence designating code '[[' and a color pattern code decided based on a color pattern table together with a color designating code 'U7' and when the routine sentence designating code '[['is received from such message data on the reception side, on the other hand, the routine message is read from the following message code based on the routine sentence table but when the color designating code 'U7' is received, color information is read from the following color pattern code based on the color pattern table so that the background or the message itself can be colored and displayed on a display part 42 corresponding to this color information.
