PURPOSE:To obtain the lithium secondary battery, which has a high capacity and in which the self-discharge is reduced, by using the specified pitch group carbonaceous particles as the carbonaceous material to be used for a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:This lithium secondary battery is provided with a positive electrode, a negative electrode made of the carbonaceous material, which can store and discharge lithium ion, and the lithium ion transmitting electrolyte. As the carbonaceous material, pitch group carbonaceous particles at 0.5-4.0m<2>/g of specific surface area of the optical anisotropic organization, which is expanded at random, is used. The pitch group carbonaceous particles are obtained by carbonating petroleum pitch, coal tar or heavy oil or the like. Desirable mean particle diameter of these particles is 2-40mum. Desirable ratio of the breadth to length is 1/10 or more. |
