PURPOSE:To extract the image of the head part in a figure image from an inputted still picture. CONSTITUTION:The difference image of the input image stored in an input image memory 1 and the background image stored in a background image memory 2 is determined as a figure image. By a silhouette function preparation part 4, the silhouette function of the figure image is prepared. This silhouette function shows the figure shilhouette image in which the contracted part due to the neck of the figure and a part which is except the head part and is narrower than a shoulder width are eliminated. In a horizontal direction projection histogram preparation part 5, a horizontal direction projection histogram is prepared at first in order to detect the location of the contracted part in the shoulder part of the shilhouette image of this figure. By determining the coordinate in a vertical direction where the change of this horizontal direction projection histogram becomes maximum in a vertical direction head part area detection part 6, the extraction location of the head part of the figure is detected. |
