PURPOSE:To measure the shape of an article accurately and quickly by measuring the change of the interval of the sets of optical cutting lines in parallel with the conveying direction of a conveying stage with the interval of the sets of the light cutting lines formed on the surface of the conveying stage as the reference, and performing the integration operation with respect to the output time. CONSTITUTION:A slit light projector 32 projects two planar optical beams 33a and 33b, which are intersected with the conveying direction of an article 10 in parallel to each other, on a conveying stage 11 for conveying the article 10 at a constand speed. Two sets of light cutting lines are formed on the article. A received-light-interval measuring means 37 measures the change in interval of the light-cutting-line set in the direction in parallel with the conveying direction of the conveying state 11 at one place of the light-cutting-line set when the article 10 is not present on the conveying stage 11 with the interval of the light-cutting-line sets formed on the surface of the conveying stage as the reference. An integration operating means 38 performs the integration operation for the output from the means 37 with respect to the time.
