PURPOSE:To improve the operability of this decoding supporting device without requiring complicated operation by recognizing characters in an original document, converting the recognized document into a document text, storing the text, retrieving a translated word for a word detected by an indication mark from a word dictionary, and editing the translated word so as to insert it into the vicinity of the retrieved word in the document text. CONSTITUTION:A reading means 1A reads out a document or the like written by foreign language as an image and stores the image in an image data storing means 1B, a conversion means 2 recognizes characters in the document or the like of the read image and converts it into a document text and stores the text in a 1st storage means 3. A word detecting means 4 detects a word indicated by a specification mark or the like described in the original document, a 2nd storage means 5 is a word dictionary constituted so as to be retrieved and a word retrieving means 6 retrieves words in the word dictionary to acquire a translated word. An editing means 9 edits the translated word so as to insert it into the text document a display means 10A displays an edited document text or the like and a printing means 10B prints out the edited document text. |
