The safety lock, esp. for a cap (6) sealing a tubular outlet (14) from the cylinder, consists of a ball chain (8) attached to the cylinder's valve unit (2) and which passes through a lug (22) on the cap's rim and round a tongue on the opposite side before being locked in place by an end point (8). The cap has a zone of reduced strength which is broken off to open the cap, and which gives an indication of a possible leak if it is already broken. The cap has a cylindrical skirt and a base, with the reduced strength section extending from the base and along the skirt.
