PURPOSE:To provide an estimating apparatus for estimating a running position of a vehicle whereby the kind of a road on which the vehicle is running is estimated more properly with the effective utilization of estimation materials such as a vehicle velocity, etc. CONSTITUTION:Supposing that a vehicle velocity V is larger than or equal to 60km/h and an expressway is included in a proposed road, a predetermined probability of 'coefficient X 1' is set for the expressway after a running distance D becomes larger than or equal to 500m. While D<500m is maintained, a continuous value shown in the graph is set between 0 and 1 to obtain a probability as a multiplied value of the coefficient, and the continuous value. As the D is longer, the probability is gradually approximated to the predetermined probability 'coefficzient X 1'. A running state of V>=60km/h is hence added to make the estimation and evaluation of a running position in accordance with the running distance before the running distance D reaches 500m. Therefore, an effective data to estimate the running position of the vehicle that the vehicle runs at high speeds is made use of in accordance with the state of data, so that an erroneous estimation is lessened. |
