OPTICAL COUPLING PARTS

PURPOSE:To facilitate alignment for lessening optical coupling loss at the time of production by forming a recessed part for fitting and mounting an element assembly on a substrate surface. CONSTITUTION:The recessed part is formed in part of the substrate 1. The base of the element assembly 2 parallel with a plane 21 inclusive of the light emitting part or light receiving part of the element assembly 2 and the base 13 of the recessed part are previously butted against each other. The shape of the recessed part is previously so adjusted and formed that the light emitting part or light receiving part of the element assembly 2 and optical fibers 3 are coupled with the lower optical coupling loss in the state of butting the slope 22 of the element assembly 2 and the slope 14 of the recessed part of the substrate 1 against each other. The optical fibers 3 are mounted in V-grooves 12 on the surface of the substrate 1 and the element assembly 2 is mounted in the recessed part of the substrate 1 in such a manner that its plane 21 is aligned with the one end face of the optical fibers 3. The positions of the element assembly 2 in a longitudinal direction, vertical direction and transverse direction are adjusted simply by driving the element assembly 2 in the longitudinal direction.
