PURPOSE:To prevent an erroneous area from being selected in the case a focus detecting area must be changed in the midst of estimation control by setting an area where defocusing amount suitable for the estimation control is detected from neighboring areas as a focus detecting area. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer PRS inputs an image signal from a line sensor device for detecting focus SNS and calculates the defocusing amount at a range- finding point (range-finding area) based on the inputted image signal. It decides the continuity of the movement of an image surface. In the case of judging that the continuity is not found, whether or not the defocusing amount of the range-finding point is suitable for the estimation control is judged concerning the range-finding points of both neighbors of the range-finding point used previous time based on the continuity of the movement of the image surface. In the case the range-finding point used previous time is at a left end or a right end, the range-finding point on the neighboring inner side (one side) is selected. When it is suitable for the estimation control, the range-finding point is changed. |
