A dishwasher or a cooker has a door (2) which is attached to the appliance by hinges and in such a way it tilts round a horizontal axis. The door (2) is equipped with a mechanical system, e.g. a door spring or a rod system, for weight equalising in the manual opening and or closing of the door (2). The invention features a door closing device (16), which is connected with the door (2) or engages separately in the mechanical system and is operated by hand or by foot.
