The invention relates to a process and device for producing a top layer for ready-use parquet flooring. Individual parquet sheets are transferred from sheet magazines (1) on parallel webs of a conveyor (2) and glued in an edge gluing station (3). The sheet assemblies are then conveyed against a stop (12) and separated at the leading edges by a cutting station (4). They are transferred by a lifting device (5) to the conveyor belt (6) of a plate press (7).
